- Applying for Harris Sixth Form
Harris If you are already at a Harris academy:
Your academy will take you through this process. You will not need an application form to apply for your own academy. You should also read ‘Key Information for Years 10 and 11’ which can be found in ‘Post 16 Options’ on this website.
Every academy will have their own way of guiding Year 11s in their applications but some of the things that you will do are:
- Attend an open evening at your current academy
- Attend an open evening at another Harris academy. Some of our academies are in ‘clusters’ and share teaching across to sites. Ask your Head of Sixth Form for more information.
- Attend a Year 11 assembly with your current Head of Sixth Form
- Attend a course discussion meeting with a member of the sixth form, careers or leadership team to discuss your plans for sixth form. Remember, you don’t need an application form
- Sign and return one copy of the offer letter which also needs a parental signature.
- Attend taster days at chosen sites.
To guide you in your choices, you should do the following things:
- Read the ‘Year 11 Harris Education Programme’ booklet, which is available from your Year 11 staff.
- Think about your future pathway and what qualifications will suit you, using ‘Choosing Your Subjects’ section in ‘Post 16 Options’ on this website to guide your choices.
- Find out what your most recent predicted grades are. How do your grades compare with your sixth form choices? You will need to achieve the minimum entry grades to be allowed to study your chosen subjects.
- Listen carefully to the advice you are being given and talk things over with your teachers and your parent/carer.
- Make an appointment to see your careers advisor, whichever pathway you are considering. They will advise on all Post-16/18 options.
- If you are on the Harris Experience, attend the Year 11 session in the autumn, where you will get lots more information about choosing subjects and pathways.
What Subjects should you choose?
If you don’t get the right grades, we will still try to help you to study with us, but you may need to change your course choices. There are no guarantees, however. It will depend on what your GCSE grades are and what courses are still available. |
